Provide electrical connection paths (key role):

Connecting the wire to the insulator string: The metal fittings on the wire side (such as tension clamps, suspension clamps) firmly clamp and connect the wire to the lower end of the insulator string.

Connecting the insulator string to the tower grounding system: The metal fittings on the tower side connect the upper end of the insulator string to the tower, which is grounded.

Forming a current discharge channel: Although the body of the insulator (ceramic, glass, or composite umbrella skirt) is highly insulated, the fittings provide the necessary electrical connection path, allowing the working current on the wire to flow into the wire through the fitting wire connection point or flow out from the wire through the fitting. More importantly, in the event of flashover (such as lightning strikes or surface discharge caused by pollution), the fault current will be safely discharged to the tower grounding system through the path composed of metal fittings, protecting the line and equipment. Without fittings, insulators cannot complete their function of connection and conduction (whether it is normal operating current or fault current).
