1. High mechanical strength
Glass material itself has high compressive and tensile strength, and can withstand external mechanical stresses such as wire weight, wind load, ice and snow.
Long term use is not easy to deform, and its stability is better than some organic material insulators.
2. Excellent electrical performance
High dielectric strength, able to withstand high voltage and lightning strikes, suitable for high-voltage transmission environments.
Smooth surface, less prone to accumulation of dirt, reduces leakage current and partial discharge phenomena, and lowers the risk of pollution flashover.
3. Strong weather resistance and aging resistance
It has strong resistance to environmental factors such as ultraviolet radiation, temperature changes, and acid rain, and is not easily aged.
Long term exposure to the outdoors can still maintain stable performance, and the service life can reach several decades.
4. Self explosion characteristics are easy to detect
Fault self manifestation: When glass insulators fail due to internal defects, lightning strikes, or mechanical damage, they will break (self destruct) on their own, and inspection personnel can visually identify them without the need for professional equipment, greatly improving the efficiency of fault detection.
Avoiding potential hazards: After self explosion, fragments still adhere to the steel feet, reducing the risk of wire detachment and ensuring the safety of the circuit.
5. Low maintenance costs
No need for regular inspection of internal cracks (such as ultrasonic testing for ceramic insulators), only visual inspection is required, and maintenance is simple.
Easy to replace after self explosion, with low overall operation and maintenance costs.
6. Environmentally friendly and recyclable
Glass materials can be 100% recycled and reused, with minimal pollution during the production process, which is in line with the trend of green energy development.
Compared to composite insulators (containing organic materials), their disposal is more environmentally friendly.
7. Good anti pollution flashover performance
The surface has strong hydrophobicity, and dirt is easily removed after being washed away by rainwater. It can still maintain good insulation performance in humid or dusty environments.
8. Mature manufacturing process
The production process has a high degree of automation, good quality consistency, and low product defect rate.
The raw materials (such as quartz sand) are abundant and the production cost is controllable.
9. Zero value insulators have low risk
After aging, the resistance of glass insulators will not gradually decrease (i.e. no "zero value insulator" will be generated), avoiding hidden faults caused by slow deterioration of insulation performance.
